"Operation HomePort is the result of a partnership funded by the US Navy, Child & Youth Programs through a contract with North Carolina State University."
US Navy Child & Youth Program (CYP) and Operation HomePort (OHP) Mission
When military members and Department of Defense (DoD) personnel are confident that their children are safe and in good care, they can better concentrate on fulfilling their military and defense support responsibilities. US Navy CYP's nationally recognized programs provide infants through 18-year-olds with high-quality, affordable child care and recreational programs for military and DoD families worldwide.
Navy CYP programs are well-respected and have a tremendous impact on the entire early childhood and youth services landscape—not only for military child care, but also for children and families in non-military operated programs. Additionally, they invest in professionals. With more than 6,000 early childhood development professionals, we’re not only equipped to provide high quality care, but also to offer a vast array of long-term career opportunities.
Operation HomePort (OHP) is another example of the Navy CYP's dedication to professional development. OHP provides opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience working with children and youth participating in Navy CYP Child Development Centers (CDC), School Age Care (SAC), and Teen programs at select naval installations. OHP interns assist in and lead the planning of developmentally appropriate activities, facilitate and participate in planned activities, supervise and account for the whereabouts of children and youth, and support and facilitate positive, respectful relationships between children, youth, parents, and CYP professional. Assignments are approximately 120-days long and opportunities may exist for the position to extend for a longer period of time or to complete an additional assignment in a new, exciting location.
